Why Train in Permanent Makeup With Katy Jobbins at the Permanent Makeup Training Academy
When I first set up the Permanent Makeup Training Academy it was as an accompaniment to my own permanent makeup clinics. Initially I thought that I may train just 3 or 4 people per year, however I still set out the training courses with a level of detail you’d expect from a seasoned academy with 30 years experience.
It’s the attention to the small detail that I believe makes me stand out. My course prospectus, which is over 50 pages long, gives a prospective student all the information they need to make an informed and educated choice to come into this industry.
The training course material, the pre-course preparation, the hands on practical training and even arranging models to attend the training so the student can perform their first “live” treatments under my watchful eye are all carefully planed and executed.
I always will insists training 1 on 1, despite knowing the I could earn a lot more training groups of students like other training companies do. I always start with the end in mind, and that being the success of the student once they have completed my training.
I just know that the students success would not be guaranteed if they initially trained in a group class room scenario.
I’m not here to just teach a skill or regurgitate the contents of a training manual or demonstrate the operation of a machine. It’s much more involved than that. Clients facial appearances are at stake and you have to ensure the student is confident in carrying out their new found skills, otherwise the consequences for the end client could be disastrously embarrassing, degrading, soul destroying and even cause depression or have them needing to spend thousands of pounds on corrective laser surgery to remove the tattooed mistakes.
I need to fully understands the needs of each of my students
Each student comes from their own unique background and life skill sets. Many students come from outside the beauty industry and therefore need a different level of training. I ensure that each student fills out a per-course bio of themselves as I need to fully understands the needs of each of my students very well, even before the training starts, which is why I will only train one person at a time, to ensure their on-going success.
I realise that I can’t train everybody, but that doesn’t mean that I can’t share my specialist knowledge widely.
To this extent I have written a number of books on specialist treatments and released a series of DVD’s so that students can continue to study beyond the classroom. These have gone on to sell on a worldwide basis via the internet to help educate students in other countries that can’t afford to travel to the UK.
Learn from the best of the best
They say you can never stop learning, which is why in my earlier days as a permanent makeup technician I traveled around the world finding trainers who were at the top of their game, traveling to the Philippines and America to learn from the best of the best in an attempt to horn my own skills.
I am always wanting to share my very best techniques and experiences with students and therefore my training courses only contain the very best techniques saving the students thousands of hours of trial and error, short cutting their learning curve and showing them techniques that any normal course would save for so called ‘Advanced training’ and charging for it.
I know that by sharing both my advanced knowledge and experiences with the students they can leave the training in no doubt regarding their skill level or confidence to carry out the facial tattooing procedures on their own clients.
Call me day or night 7 days a week
I also know that not everyone will have learned enough to cover every possible situation which is why I give every student that attends my training my personal mobile phone number and they know they can call me day or night 7 days a week, even if they are in the middle of performing a procedure and I will stop what I am doing to help them in any way I can over the phone. I’m not aware of any other training company in the UK providing this level of after training support.
Build a solid business
Beyond performing the skill of the treatment I have also considered the students ability to build a solid business. Something most have never had to do by themselves. To this end I have the only Permanent Makeup Training company in the UK which offers a 3 day Business & Marketing Boot-camp which compliments the skills training.
Students that have attended the Business & Marketing course have gone on to win their own Awards, court local publicity, opened unique Salons that have been rated #1, and even opened a salon on Hyde Park Corner in one of London’s most elite areas. The success stories and results from my students are a plenty and some case studies can be seen below.
People who have never been in the beauty industry
I take great pride and satisfaction from the confidence that I instills in people during the training, who have never been in the beauty industry, who range from back to work Mum’s who have taken a career break to have children, to air hostesses, business admin staff, People made redundant, and even investment banking.
Turning people’s lives around and giving them a new career and a new start in live
I don’t see it as just providing a course to educate someone, I see it as turning people’s lives around and giving them a new career and a new start in live that not just changes the their lives but also the lives of all their clients that they go on to provide a service to.
They say there is no great gift than education, but I like to gifted it in such a way so as to guarantee the success of my students
